So Proud to be a Future Bronco!

The opportunity to do what I love while learning what I love is the reason that I will attend California State Polytechnic University.

About three years ago I had to quit my favorite pastime, horseback riding, because my family could no longer afford it. Horseback riding was my escape from the trauma that abuse left inside my soul. Sitting on a horse, I was able to be completely myself, let go of the depression, the turmoil, everything. It was my therapy, and then it was gone.
Since then I have decided that I want to help other children and young adults experience the same release that I once so enjoyed. Therefore, my major choice is psychology, specializing in therapy for young people suffering from traumas. I hope to use horseback riding to spur the recovery of those I come in contact with during my career. I strongly believe that the personal connection, trust, and control that a young person experiences when riding a horse is the key needed to recover from traumas such as abuse; I hope to impact many lives through this.
Because of my experience and beliefs correlated with therapy and horses, I was overjoyed to find that Cal Poly Pomona has an Arabian horse breeding program on campus. By attending the University I will be able to ride horses regularly and rebuild the connection that I used to love so much. In addition, I will be able to study psychology and learn how to improve lives and understand my future clients.
Furthermore, Cal Poly Pomona’s unique mission statement makes me proud to call it my future school. “Cal Poly Pomona's mission is to advance learning and knowledge by linking theory and practice in all disciplines, and to prepare students for lifelong learning, leadership and careers in a changing multicultural world” (http://www.csupomona.edu/mission). I am a strong believer in learning by doing, and I think that every school should have a similar mission statement. However, they do not; hence why I am so avid upon attending Cal Poly Pomona. Lifelong learning is truly the most important aspect I will take away upon graduation from Cal Poly Pomona. How can one be honestly successful without it?
Due to the unique mission and opportunities that Cal Poly Pomona offers its students, I am so proud to call myself a future Bronco!

Reaching Out

There are so many of us that live inside of our own little bubble and never really see what goes on around us.
Do we ever stop to notice the suffering, the beauty, the differences in all of the things we encounter in a single day?
I've realized that life is so much more fulfilling when we simply reach out to the experiences and people around us in this journey.
Try it sometime.
